As a litigation attorney in South Florida for 28 years I'm trained to observe the smallest details of people and things around me. Practicing law requires constant education, learning, reading and preparation to be successful. I approach art the same way as I am always studying the masters, the movements, with a specific emphasis on 20th century abstract art. I found this skill pairs perfectly with abstract painting and abstract art. I'm driven by the love I have for my home city, Miami, with its mix of tropical and urban landscapes constantly colliding. I am inspired and influenced by the abstract painters whose works immediately invoke an emotional response that is almost animalistic or uncontrollable and unexplainable. As attorney I am dominated by reason, as an artist I am driven by irrational passion.
My abstract painting and fine art is inspired by the diversity, vibrant colors, light, and mix of cultures in Miami. With my paintings I try to evoke an emotion and feeling rather than forming a specific representation. Much of my work is both non-representational and abstracted from an inspired person, place, or thing, which also leads to some figurative works. I like to think of it as "inspirational" art, because it is inspired by something first. It is designed to allow for each viewer to interpret it in their own way based in their own life experience. My experience as a street and landscape photographer has strongly influenced my sense of composition and color in my painting.
My work uses a broad range of materials and mediums from concrete to canvas and up-cycled materials, using mostly acrylics. With my abstract painting I strive to free people of a specific image which limits thought and expand thinking through pure, simple emotion.
